In this activity you will learn how to:

• open Outlook Express 
• check for new messages.


 

Outlook Express is the e-mail program that comes with Internet Explorer. It is a simple program that will handle your routine messaging tasks and give you access to newsgroups.

We will double-click the Outlook Express icon to open it.

 

The Inbox is where you find messages that have been sent to you.

We will click the Inbox folder to display its contents.

 

 

The top-right window contains your messages.

 

The bottom-right window displays the contents of the selected message.

 

You must be online to check your messages. If you begin the process while offline, Outlook will prompt you to connect.

To check for new messages, we will click the Send/Recv button.

 

 

One new message is downloaded. Unread messages are always displayed in bold characters.

The paperclip icon beside a message represents a document attached to it.

We will click on the message to select it.

 

Outlook displays the contents of the message in the bottom window. You click on the paperclip icon to open or save the attached file.
