Buffalos are gregarious animals that live in herds of up to 1000 or more individuals. A dominant bull is usually żin chargeż of the herd, and typically this responsibility falls on the oldest male in the herd. Older males can often also be found living alone or in small bachelor herds. The buffalo herds are very peaceful groups, but the buffalo can be a very aggressive and dangerous animal. Although the African buffalo is not a water buffalo, they rarely stray from water but do not often drink at the same spot each day. They usually drink in the morning and the evening and retreat into heavy cover and shade during the heat of the day. The buffalos leave tracks and cow-like droppings wherever they go which makes them easy animals to find, a misfortune when it comes to poachers. They do have a highly developed sense of smell and reasonably good eyesight. Their hearing though is not very good.

Diet

Buffalos are exclusively grazers feeding primarily on open grassy plains.
