Impalas are handsome antelopes with a short coat that is white underneath, light and dark brown on top. They have black tips on their ears and extremities of their legs. The males have horns which grow to 90 centimetres in length, and have a pronounced ┐┐S┐┐ shape.

Weight

Male weighs 50-80 kilograms.

Female weighs 40-50 kilograms.

Height

75-90 centimetres.

Tail

The impala tail is 25-35 centimetres in length.

Speed

Impalas rely on their jumping ability rather than their speed to escape predators. Nevertheless, impalas can run at least 60-70 kilometres per hour for a minute or two. If pursued for longer they may suffer heart failure and die.

Life Span

15 years.

Head

The male┐s horns are continuously growing throughout life. The horn surrounds a strong support of living bone.

Front Limb

There are two hooves attached to the fused ┐finger┐ bones. Two other digits are small and largely non-functional. The ┐wrist┐ can be seen halfway along the limb, the ┐elbow┐ is near the body. The glands, near a black spot of fur adjacent to the hooves, leave the antelope┐s scent on the ground.

Hind Limb

The hind limb is built on the same plane as the front limb.
