The greater kudu is one of the largest antelopes. The permanent horns of the kudu have a spiral twist but are unbranched.

Weight

150-320 kilograms.

Height

Kudus are 120 centimetres or 50 inches to the shoulder.

Life Span

15 years or more.

Head

Both sexes of kudus have horns which average about 120 centimetres, though individual examples can be considerably larger. The male kudu has a beard. The vision of the kudu is keen, and the external ears are large and efficient sound-gathering devices.

Body

The kudu is camouflaged by a number of vertical black stripes on its body. Its coat varies from reddish to greyish in colour and this darkens with age. The head bears a white ┐┐V┐┐ shaped mark, and the under surface of the tail is white.

Front Limb

On the kudu┐s front limb are two hooves attached to the fused ┐finger┐ bones. It also has two other digits that are small and largely non-functional. The ┐wrist┐ can be seen halfway along the limb, and the ┐elbow┐ lies near the body.

Hind Limb

The hind limb is built on the same plane as the front limb.
