Male yellow baboons mature at 4-6 years of age while the females mature earlier around 3-4 years old. The females have a menstrual cycle of about 33 days, and mating takes place throughout the year. After the birth of a youngster, the female does not mate again for 18 months.

The baby has a pink face for the first year but the rest of the body is black. Its ears are large and floppy at first. Play is an important developmental phase of the young baboonâs life, and weaning takes place at 6-8 months.
