Distribution

The zebra is found in Southern and East Africa.

Habitat

Zebras are adaptable animals where habitat is concerned. They are widely distributed through habitat types and regions, and can be found almost anywhere with exception of dense forest. Their preference though is short grass plains with scattered trees, and they are reliant on having nearby water.

Numbers

The zebra is a common animal (its two related species are rarer though). Lions, hyenas, and man are their chief predators.

Related Species

The mountain zebra (Equus zebra) and the grevy┐s zebra (Equus grevyi) are related to the zebra. The rare zebra-sized okapi is also striped, but has a relationship closer to the giraffe than the zebra.
